I am SS-Sturmbannfhrer Dr Karl Lutze, and I continue my journal recording the progress of my secret mission to repopulate the New Eastern Territories of the Greater German Reich.

26th of December 1943,
I received an urgent dispatch from Field Marshal von Manstein it seems the Russians had broken through our defences on the 24th and are at this moment encircling no less than twelve German divisions in the Ukraine we had lost Belgorod and were falling back to Kiev

Although we are more than 800 kilometres away we had no reserves between the Russian front and ourselves.
If only our forces had been able to counter attack and stabilise the front we would not have had to abandon our idyllic existence,
As it happened a great weight had just been put upon my shoulders.
At this point we had a total 2856 women 1234 of which have been with us for less than three months and are waiting to conceive, 1686 had already given birth and were pregnant for the second or third time.
It would be my sole responsibility to evacuate all the women and babies back to Germany.
I kept this information secret to avoid panic, while I continued to communicate with the front as long as possible.
In the mean time I announced that all babies would be collected and transported to a special hospital in Germany for their health and safety.
There were some tragic scenes as the mothers protested against giving up their babies, unfortunately this had to be done immediately so we would not be encumbered when the time came for our own evacuation.
Our military reversal was really a tragic disaster as we had finally settled in to a completely idyllic existence with our breeding program well underway.

There was no longer the animosity between the women and our soldiers that prevailed in the beginning, especially with the women who had been with us for a year or more, they had grown used to our procedures and routine and were so used to going naked that they found clothes uncomfortable.
One hundred, five hundred or a thousand naked women at any one time, could be seen working, cooking, cleaning or just chatting and relaxing in the sun, that was a normal day.
To choose one to play with was an every day occurrence that was no longer seen as excess but a privilege especially with the young teenagers who would flirt with my men and compete with each other.
All this had to end and a plan formulated for evacuation.
Six Red Cross trucks were ordered to evacuate the babies initially to Norway and when it arrived there was a woeful scene with hundreds of crying mothers making a very sad spectacle.

My Deutscher Samen made sure that those who had given up their babies were compensated with extra and longer visits over the following week.
It was a convenient and pleasurable way to take the women's minds away from pining for their missing child or children.
I am pleased to say that quite a number of women were impregnated for the second and third time during this period and that also seemed to brighten their spirits.

I sent a requisition to headquarters for two thousand woollen army uniforms as the women had no clothes for their journey although I had put by a small number of confiscated expensive clothes, mainly furs, coats, jackets and stoles but a few good thick woollen and leather coats as well.
I had to choose who would go and when, to leave them would be a death sentence.

The Russians were noted for not taking prisoners.
The thought of what they might do to my lovely Irina, Svetlana, and Yana, not to mention all the other lovely women was just too horrific to imagine.
I resolved to do my best to evacuate everyone.
On the very next morning I ordered all our trucks be made ready to start the evacuation of all the heavily pregnant women (those over seven months)

Although I made every attempt to keep every one calm rumours of a great German defeat had already begun to circulate.
Belgorod had been lost to the Russians with enormous casualties. Our great debacle was about to begin.
That autumn our men were sacrificed by the thousands on the Ukrainian steppes.
You may think that the Russian women would be pleased to see their country folk again?
Not so, the vast majority were petrified of what would happen to them if they were captured by the Russians.
Only a few of those recently received by us had any idea or thought about being liberated.
Consequently I decided that these would be the last ones to leave the camp.
We had only fifteen serviceable trucks with which we would attempt to reach the rail terminus at Lovov.
I provided all the women with papers signed by the Reichfurher himself and I had his word that a special red-cross train would be waiting on the 25th of January.
Our final destination was Koniensberg on the Baltic Coast.

How long this would take and what difficulties we would encounter no one could predict.

A great deal of anticipation and nervousness surrounded the camp although everything continues to function as normal.
A supply truck finally arrived and all the women were fitted out with a mixture of German uniforms with some having to be modified to accommodate their swollen bellies.
An assortment of coats and hats were also included.
What we ended up with was a mix of service uniforms with different hats and gloves, boots and shoes, a strange arrangement but at least they were warm.
Some of the women who were adept with a needle and thread made adjustments and modifications to accommodate their swollen bellies soon all were ready.

The first five trucks were loaded with straw for warmth and covered with canvas to keep away cold and prying eyes, four armed guards were posted to each transport for the women's protection and on the 7th of January with no news from the front I ordered the first of the trucks to depart, taking back roads where possible.
The 9th of January my men reported Russian aircraft overhead and I ordered that the camp be camouflaged and all windows blacked out and taped as a protection against injuries from shattered glass.
The 12th of January four of our trucks have returned and I ask for a full report from the Kaptain.
I was told that one truck had been destroyed by Russian strafing from the air and approx. 60 pregnant women killed plus four of our Waffen SS Guards.
There were no survivors!
The convoy had become strung out and the single truck had been caught in the open.
A shocking and sad day for us all, as we read out the names of those pregnant mothers and soldiers killed.
The main road to Kiev was now becoming chocked with retreating soldiers, I was so glad that I had sent the babies on ahead.
The situation was already far worse than I had expected and I ordered that the next transport out be readied immediately.
All fourteen remaining trucks were loaded with almost 1500 hundred women, crowding was unavoidable.
A feeling of panic was now pervading our whole community.
About this time I received a communication from my friend of many years Field Marshal von Manstein and the news was very grave indeed, the Russians had broken our defences, we counter attacked as expected however the field marshal's view was not optimistic.
Already Zhitomir and Korosten had fallen and a Russian push was being made to the south towards Kovel - Korsun where 20,000 of our troops were in danger of being encircled.
The Eastern front was in total turmoil, we had to evacuate urgently as it was not certain how close the Russians actually were.
Left were 1234 women who had not yet conceived, and another 142 who were pregnant, plus, staff, Doctors Nurses and Officers and our SS Wiking detachment of approx. 250 men.

I ordered that my favourites Irina, Svetlana and Yana be bought to my private quarters where it was warmer and safer.
They were all naked as was usual and huddled together for warmth.
That night I had Fritz bring up a selection of warm clothes that had be confiscated and saved from past transports while I opened some Champagne and put on the gramophone to lighten the moment.
That night we had a party!
I called the girls in to my living room telling them that I had a surprise in store for them.
They squealed with excitement when they saw the clothes and scrambled amongst a small mountain of dresses, skirts, Jackets and furs.
We had grown so accustomed to seeing them without clothes it somehow seemed to change there personality to see them in clothes!
I called our nurse Helga in to join our festivities and she promptly volunteered lipstick and shoes for them that she had secretly stowed away.
I opened a safe and bought out a selection of jewellery (also confiscated) and gave each one a piece.
I explained that should the need arise they should sell it or use it to bargain with as of course none had any money.
Each piece was small but of 24 ct. gold and studded with either diamonds or other precious stones. (All quite valuable pieces.)
I kissed each one in turn and pinned the broach on the shoulder of their dresses.
They were excited and whirled around and around in their newly fashionable clothes with furs draped around their necks as if going to a night at the Opera.
The sight was surreal; I had never seen them look so beautiful.
It was probably the last time we were all happy and carefree together.
The girls, laughed, sang and danced while we all drank bottle after bottle of French Champagne thoroughly enjoying the pleasure of each others company.
Over the next two weeks as each transport returned it was reloaded with women and refuelled for its return trip.

By the ... all but a skeleton staff, myself, Yana, Svetlana, Irina and the six Deutscher Samen, plus 30 Waffen SS troops and 92 of the most recently captured women remained.
In an effort to make all the remaining women conceive they were being rutted by my Deutscher Samen troopers regularly around the clock.
Our six men would go from one to the other with no more than a fifteen minute interval, after two days and with little sleep their passages were red raw but by the time it had come for our departure all except four had conceived!

20th of January.
Four trucks have returned empty but with sad reports, we had lost another truck, it seems it was stopped by an Oberlutanent Hans Danke and the women made to get out and replaced by the walking wounded, many were raped and mutilated by the retreating soldiers and left to die in the snow despite my officer's protests and letters of passage from the Reichmarchal himself.

Discipline was disintegrating in our desperate retreat.
I recorded all eyewitness accounts in detail with the intention of finding the men responsible and bring them to justice when I returned to Germany.

27th of February
We wereagain bombed and strafed by some Russian planes fortunately we seemed to have been an opportune target and the causalities and damage was remarkably slight.
Two soldiers killed and four women wounded.
Next day on the 28th I had four of the remaining trucks loaded with the remaining women, we made every effort to evacuate everyone now as shelling could now be heard continuously, the front was no more than 50 kilometres.
With all remaining women on board with guards they departed immediately,
I now made plans to defend the main building which was a natural strong point with strategically placed panzerfaust brigades and two Pac 88 anti aircraft batteries camouflaged and dug it to cover the approaching roads and valley below, these weapons could be used very effectively against aircraft or with their barrels lowered to horizontal against tanks.
All available vehicles, several cars including my Mercedes sedan and three half-track transports, all remaining provisions were systematically loaded and all unnecessary records burnt.
On the morning of the 3rd of March we observed two Russian tanks enter the Village below accompanied with perhaps two companies of Russian regulars.
The next day we were receiving fire from the two tanks while their infantry attempted to cut off our retreat.
It was finally time to leave.
After loading vital files into my Mercedes, I assembled all the staff, Nurses, Doktors, and a few civilians who were left and told them of our position.
They were to arm themselves and climb on board our remaining trucks.

Approximately 50 Waffen SS volunteers would stay and fight a rear guard action enabling the rest of us to make our escape, twenty-four hours later they would attempt to disengage the enemy and break out in small parties and join up with us again when possible.
Surrender was not a consideration.

6th of March
With our communications cut and coming under steady fire I decided to wait no longer,
That evening I told Irina, Svetlana, Yana, to dress in the new clothes I had given them and rug themselves up for the cold.
The three appeared each wearing a full length fur coat with fur beret, they all squeezed into the back of the Mercedes and I sat in the front in my dress uniform grey great coat with a machine pistol in my lap.

Fritz my loyal orderly now in regular fatigues and greatcoat, fur hat and scarf was our driver.
Two half track vehicles led our column, accompanied by four motor cyclist with sidecars mounted with machine guns, followed by my Mercedes and five smaller sedans driven by my Deutscher Samen SS and carrying their favourite women followed by four large transport vehicles caring our staff and supplies, two smaller trucks towing gun carriages came up the rear.

As our column pulled away I could already see the Russian tanks begin their way up the winding mountain road towards our encampment.

I continued to observe their advance through my binoculars for as long as possible as we departed and saw the puffs of white smoke emerge from there gun mussels and a roar and a deafening crash as the shell bursts into the nearby pines showering us with shrapnel and splintered timbers,
A moment later I heard the crack of our eighty eights and both tanks were engulfed in flames; our hidden and camouflaged rear guard had taken their revenge.

Russian regulars were no match for our fearless Wiking SS!
A twist in the road and the fighting was now out of sight although I continued to hear the rattle of heavy machine gun fire and the thud of artillery.
It was with heavy heart that I took my seat again and put away my glasses, we had left in the nick of time the Russians were close in pursuit and could already have us surrounded.
I glanced at Fritz and told him we would all have to count on each other if we were to survive.
I glanced into the back and saw my lovely women huddled together in their furs it somehow gave me a feeling as if we are a family going on an adventure, they laughed and joked and tried to make light of our situation but there was an underlying sense of terror.
Five Kilometres on we came across one of our earlier transports it had hit a mine and been ambushed.
My men stopped instantly and swarmed into the surrounding vicinity but alas the criminals had escaped this time.
I told the women to cover their faces as Fritz bought the car to a halt.
He kept the car running while I walked with half a dozen soldiers towards the wreck with my pistol drawn.
The truck had been the last to leave approximately forty-eight hours earlier and had contained approximately fifty women, now their blood stained bodies were strewn over the snow.
Our Doktors searched franticly for signs of life, some had obviously been killed in the initial attack with mangled limbs, others had obviously been dragged half alive from the wreck, raped and tortured.
Four women had obviously died hideous deaths, lying side by side in the snow with their pregnant bellies slit open; their remains had obviously been eaten by wild dogs.
These were our most recent captives that we had only a week ago impregnated.

Sadly it was our Doktors opinion that these women would have lived long enough to see what was happening to them.
Raped and disembowelled.
Further on we discovered that two of our men had survived the attack only to be castrated and tortured to death as well.
The Russians were animals.

I swore an oath that day that I would give no mercy should any fall into my hands.
After fifteen minutes it was determined that no enemy remained in the immediate vicinity and that unfortunately none of our brave German soldiers or our women survived this encounter.
I ordered the column to spread out further to ensure that the whole column could not be taken by surprise and to continue on.
As soon as possible we would depart the road and take to the fields to lessen the risk of ambush and mines.
Not ten minutes further into our journey I heard machine gun fire.

As we turned the bend a tragedy came into view.
One of our outriders had been hit; both motorcycle and sidecar had been destroyed.
Snipers were in the trees!
As usual my men were already circling the enemy and preparing to flush them out.
I had no doubt as of the outcome but each delay bought the advancing Russian troops closer.
I ordered the column on despite the risks.
Fritz steered the Mercedes off the road and between the trees when possible our outriders fanned out accordingly trying to keep the road in view but weaving between the trees to become a more difficult target.
Ten more minutes and more gunfire ahead, I was beginning to fear that our retreat had been cut off.
Our vehicles once again came to a halt; it was beginning to snow as I used my binoculars to scan the way ahead.
My men had taken cover and within minutes were covered by the falling snow.
Ten minutes behind us of course were our four transports with the remainder of our women and staff; it is vital that these women, our staff, files and equipment do not fall into the hands of the Russians.

More sniper fire, this time a bullet passed through our car's door!
Franz and myself automatically threw ourselves out into the snow. The women were panic stricken.
